The Benefits of Same Day Dental Crowns

Our dental crowns are made of porcelain ceramic. This material is reflective, just like natural teeth. Porcelain ceramic crowns also provide durability like traditional metal crowns. Crowns not only address dental damage but also cap off implant restorations.  Once the dental crowns are complete they become a natural part of the smile. We can also color-match crowns to blend in with the appearance of the natural smile.

Dental Crown Treatment in Dundalk, MD

Before treatment, Dr. Hassan prepares teeth for the crown by removing a small portion of the enamel. Preparing the teeth ensures that the crowns fit. Then, he takes dental impressions. Our dental office uses CEREC and CAD/CAM technology to create and place dental crowns. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, while CAD/CAM stands for computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing.

We take images of the teeth to customize the crowns to fit each individual’s smile. With these images, we can create 3-D models of the teeth on a computer. The milling machine follows this model to create crowns from a block of ceramic. Once the dental crowns are fully complete, Dr. Hassan places the crowns onto the prepared teeth.

Dental Crown FAQs

What are inlays and onlays?

Inlays and onlays are known as partial crowns because they only cover the chewing surfaces of teeth. While inlays cover the area between the tooth cusps or sides, onlays cover the chewing surfaces and tooth cusps. Both inlays and onlays may be made of a composite material to easily blend in with the natural color of teeth.

How long do dental crowns last?

With the right care, dental crowns can last 15 to 30 years. Patients can continue to brush and floss their teeth twice a day, even with dental crowns. However, patients need to be careful with their crowns to prevent damage. Abrasive whitening toothpaste and hard-bristled toothbrushes can damage the crowns.

Is the dental crown treatment painful?

We use an anesthetic to numb the mouth during crown treatment. Patients should not feel extreme pain or discomfort when we place the crowns. If you notice any change in the fit or comfort of your crowns, please call our practice.
